Underneath the Neon Lights

Underneath the Neon Lights

Sorry for the lack of updates! I haven't been able to maintain the blogging due to adulting (and also lack of traveling), but I'm hoping to provide some in the next few weeks because I have a few adventures ahead! I'll keep that info private for now, but you'll know soon enough. :)

Attaching fairy lights to an umbrella is serious business! And also requires a team. Photo taken by Tina

Last week, I did manage to get a photoshoot or two here locally (I'm from Houston), so finding photo locations is an adventure in itself. One of my friends wanted some unique photos, and we were brainstorming and came up with an idea of shooting at night with fairy lights. Fairy lights, are essentially Christmas lights, but on a copper wire and less gaudy.

The end result! Using the neon as the key light and the fairy as fill gave this unique shot.

To add another layer to the image, we wanted to shoot with neon lights in the background for a little more pop in the photo. The result turned out to be a lot better than I expected, mainly because I was worried that the lighting from the neon signs would saturate the skin too much, and although it may have, the glow from the fairy lights were enough to offset it to have some great images.

Knowing to use lighting does wonders! If you're starting off with lighting in your photography, I'd highly recommend using continuous lighting instead of strobe/speed lighting just so you get familiar with how light bounces off surfaces.
